Excellence in Employment Article and Award

2006 Excellence In Employment Awards - Kudos
discussion started 6/30/2006, 8:56 a.m. by Michael Vangel

Well, anyone who attended will tell you that the 2006 Employment Excellence Awards event held on June 20th was inclusive, lively, engaging, fun, emotional, and believe it or not pretty fast-paced. People came early and stayed late - what more can I say? Even the bartender was a former recruiter!

Congratulations to Margaret Limoli, Tracie Ackerman-Fornaro, John Lew, and Sandra Strong for their commendations for "Best Practices in the Field of Employment", and congratulations to Paul Reardon and Frank McCarthy for their "Distinguished Service Awards".
And, of course, a special tip of the cap for a job well done to Susan Hand, who received the 2006 M. Michael Boyd "Excellence in Employment" award. Photos from the event will be posted to the web site within the next few days.

Special thanks go to the event planning committee including Gloria Roe, of Raytheon, Deb Lane, Richard Provencher, of Accenture, Dan Kilgore, of Getronics, and Dave Gentes, of MIT Lincoln Lab. And we are very grateful to Barbara Gibson and BostonWorks for their sponsorship of the June 20th Awards event.

By any measure the event planning committee did a wonderful job. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, it is by the dedication and collaborative efforts of committee volunteers such as these folks, and from the generosity of our sponsors, we can provide such terrific events.

As we move forward in planning our New England-based events for 2007, please consider volunteering to be a part of one of our meetings. It is not a huge commitment. It is a lot of fun and you get to meet some wonderful people.

Also, part of our mission in 2007 will be to expand chapters throughout the United States. AOEP will gladly underwrite initial meetings in new locations (provided there is interest from a core committee) and be a resource for content delivery and event planning. All we need is a core committee of three or four individuals per location who can dedicate a little of their time to help advance the profession of employment be they corp HR, third party recruiter, consultant, HR technology or service provider, media, or recruitment advertising agency.

We are also looking for potential sponsors for our upcoming meetings in September, December, and 2007.

If you are interested in volunteering to help with one of our New England-based events, help put on a meeting in other parts of the United States, would like to sponsor a meeting, or can refer potential sponsors of meetings, please reach out to me directly.

Oh, and don't forget to mark in your calendars that our September 27, 2006 morning meeting (8am -10am) will be held at the Amherst room of the new UMass Club located on the 33rd Floor of the former State Street Bank building (225 Franklin Street). It is a beatutiful setting with panoramic views of Boston Harbor and the financial district. The timely topic will be the Evolving Role of Human Resources and Recruitment Process Outsourcing.

Hope everyone has a fantastic fourth of July!

Mike
